The $18 million former Ghanaian lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong was ordered in March, this year, to pay investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in damages for using defaming words on him has been reduced to $500.

A court in the United States of America lessened the sum on May 11, 2025, following a motion for remittitur filed by Agyapong.

A remittitur is a procedure under which a court may order the reduction of the amount of damages granted by a jury in a civil case.

But Agyapong, who could not substantiate the allegations he levelled against Anas during the trial, remains guilty of defamation.

“Many avenues of redemption accrue to me. But, it is important to state, as I previously did, that, this fight has not been about the money, but rather, fight for truth and justice.

“I am happy that not a single allegation was proven against me in court when Kennedy Agyapong was given full opportunity to substantiate,” said Anas in a press statement released after the court granted the remittitur motion.

He added: “I will continue in my relentless fight against corruption – and in doing that, continue to name, shame, and jail.”

The statement released by Tiger Eye PI, a private investigative network founded by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
