Electoral Commission schedules Council of State elections for February 11

The elections will take place nationwide on Tuesday, 11 February 2025.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled Tuesday, 11 February 2025, for the elections of regional representatives to Ghana’s Council of State.

The commission says the upcoming exercise is in line with “Paragraph (c), Clause (2) of Article 89” of the country’s 1992 Constitution.  

The EC’s chairperson, Jean Mensa, and the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The elections will take place in all regional capitals at venues yet to be determined, the commission stated in a statement issued Wednesday.

The following are the guidelines for aspirants as cited in that statement signed by the chairperson of the commission, Jean Mensa:

  1. Qualified persons who intend to stand for the said elections should submit their nomination forms with 2 copies of a recent bust-sized photograph against a red background showing their full face and ears.
  •  The nomination forms shall be submitted to the regional director of their respective regions from Tuesday, 28 January, to Friday , 31 January , 2025 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
  • Nominations must be proposed and seconded by 2 registered voters in the region and supported by 20 registered voters from the region.
  • The candidate must consent to his nomination for election as a member of the Council of State.
  • Completed nomination forms must be delivered to the regional director of the Electoral Commission at the place designated for the receipt of the nominations and at the time specified above.
  • Copies of the nomination forms shall be downloaded from the Electoral Commission’s website (www.ec.gov.gh) and completed in triplicate.
