On Monday, 12 June 2023, Class FM engaged the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, in an interview during an evening newscast programme over a statement he made against Ghanaians of northern descent.
The regional minister had told Media Without Borders in a mining-related interview that people should “be very careful” in their dealings with “northerners” because they are “very greedy” and “don’t tell the truth”.
But he told the Accra-based radio station he “never said anything like that” and challenged the spokesperson for the Northern Forum for Peace and Development (NOFPED), Christopher K. Asima, who was also being interviewed by the private radio station on the matter at the time, to produce evidence that he made such a statement.
