Born on 18th July, 1918, Nelson Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid activist.
For campaigning against apartheid in South Africa, he was imprisoned for 27 years.
After his unconditional release in 1990, he served as the president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
He died on 5th December, 2013.
