The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) says it has started the licensing of service providers effective from today, 23 April 2025.
The agency announced the development in a press statement issued Wednesday by its media relations officer, Prince Kwame Minkah.

Only a Ghanaian who is 18 years and above or a company fully owned by a Ghanaian qualifies to apply to the agency for a licence, the statement emphasised.
The statement further said a licence could be applied for online via GoldBod’s official website goldbod.gov.gh or in person at GoldBod’s licence office in Accra.

“The categories of licences that can be applied for effective immediately are as follows: aggregator licence, self-financing aggregator licence, buyer licence (tier 2) and buyer licence (tier 1).
“Other licences such as refining licence, smelting licence, fabrication licence, storage licence, transportation licence [and] importation licence among others may be applied for effective July, 2025,” added the statement.

The agency reiterated the directive it issued to all foreigners trading in gold in the country to exit the local market effective Wednesday, 30 April 2025.
“A breach of this directive shall constitute a punishable offence under the Ghana GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140). A foreigner may, however, apply to the GoldBod to off-take gold from the GoldBod involved in local gold trade to exit the sector.
“Additionally, the GoldBod in line with its mandate to oversee and regulate the gold trading sector, reiterates its earlier directive for all gold traders to buy and/or sell gold at the official Bank of Ghana (BoG) Reference Rate published on ww.bog.gov.gh,” it concluded.
